The Oncology Lead is a pivotal role in shaping and executing therapeutic area strategies across the International Region, aligning global priorities while addressing local market dynamics to drive portfolio success, patient access, and commercial excellence.
Operating as an individual contributor, the Oncology Lead collaborates with cross-functional teams to maximize value from Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets by ensuring launch excellence, embedding best practices, and building readiness for future pipeline opportunities.
Position Summary
The Oncology Lead is responsible for defining and driving therapeutic area strategies, ensuring launch readiness, accelerating portfolio execution, and strengthening commercial excellence capabilities across the International Region. The role requires agility, strategic foresight, and the ability to influence a matrixed organization to deliver impactful results.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership: Define and execute therapeutic area strategies for the International Region, ensuring alignment with global priorities while tailoring to local market dynamics.
Portfolio Oversight: Oversee the therapeutic area portfolio to identify growth opportunities, maximize value creation, and accelerate launches.
Launch Excellence: Partner with Country General Managers (GMs) and Business Unit Directors (BUDs) to plan and execute launches, ensuring readiness across sub-regions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with Medical, Regulatory, Market Access, Government Affairs, and Commercial teams to ensure patient access, differentiation, and competitive advantage.
Capability Building: Embed best practices, coach Local Operating Companies (LOCs) and sub-regional teams, and ensure consistent execution standards across international markets.
Governance & Stakeholder Management: Represent the International Region at global therapeutic area forums, providing strategic clarity, market insights, and performance updates.
Innovation & Patient Engagement: Champion innovative, patient-focused approaches, leveraging real-world evidence and digital tools to strengthen portfolio impact.
Market Insight & Foresight: Anticipate portfolio evolution, track competitive landscape, and recommend strategies to maintain GSK leadership.
Leadership Without Line Authority: Influence and align diverse stakeholders across countries and sub-regions, operating effectively without direct reporting lines.
Future Readiness: Develop long-term strategies for lifecycle management, pipeline launches, and sustainable growth across the therapeutic area.
Qualifications/Skills
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Medicine, Pharmacy, or Business.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in Marketing, Sales, or Commercial roles within the pharmaceutical or biopharma industry.
Proven ability in brand strategy, launch readiness, and portfolio management across multiple markets.
Strong interpersonal and influential skills, with demonstrated capability to lead without direct authority.
Digitally savvy, comfortable with data-driven insights, and self-motivated to drive change.
Fluency in English required; a second regional language is desirable.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree (MBA in Business/Pharmaceutical Management or related discipline).
Previous General Management experience or broad business leadership exposure.
Experience working in matrixed, cross-functional environments across countries/regions.
Strategic foresight and ability to anticipate market evolution and recommend impactful actions.
Work Arrangement
This role requires on-site presence with occasional travel across the International Region.
